Missing punctuation is likely the reason for the confusion:
“brake light on front drive tires is leaking brake fluid” makes sense if a comma is added after tires “brake light on front drive tires, is leaking brake fluid”.

This is pre-covid beater pricing and looks better than several of my previous beaters. Assuming it’s safe to drive, as is, and passes an inspection and test drive, worth the gamble. Worst case: parting it out should get at least some of the investment back. NP

Mazda B1800 1/4 pickup with the rotary engine. Semi-practical, fun to drive, more oomph than most 1/4 tonners, and fits easily into a standard parking stall.

1/4 ton (compact) pickups. Toyota Helix, Ford Courier et al. Affordable basic daily drivers with decent gas mileage, and enough truck for casual hauling.

Unacceptable rusting in the snow belt was common across several manufacturers, foreign and domestic, at the time. Two quick examples:
Ford pickup bodies and boxes started rusting through in a couple of years, and the frames of early Honda Civics were prone to failure due to corrosion damage.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but, the suv body severly limits usefulness as a truck. This is not the old-school pick-up truck I suspect a lot of us would like to see back - a plain-jane two door pickup with an 8 foot box and a cab interior (including seats) you can clean with a hose.

Just in case no one else mentioned it - this is a haunting experience for the train crew. Trauma from level-crossing accidents often stays with the crew members for months, or years. They can’t stop the train, and, far too often, the last thing visible from the cab before the collision is a screaming face in the car…
