I never forgot about this one. It took me years of sporadic looking to find one locally. That was last year, and after 20+ years in Michigan it was, predictably, a rusted shit-heap. Amazingly, though, it still handled well, and that sweet, sweet 4A-GE... Best $250 car I ever bought.

Like others, I think there are too many question marks with this particular example to justify the asking price, so CP.

*We* do. I'm just not sure if the bean counters at GM do. Although I have to say that with all the other RWD/AWD architecture floating around at Cadillac, it seems that a stretched/widened STS platform would work just fine and be cheap to manufacture.

Maybe a little confused, but the XTS demographic is less likely to care which wheels are driven than the ATS, CTS, or STS customers.

My real recommendation would be a Volvo 240 Wagon, which is my recommendation to almost everybody for almost everything. The only "problem" is that it doesn't cost enough to be compared to a new Civic. Hell, even really mint, ridiculously low-mileage ones generally don't get above $4K.

Yeah, I had a B5.5 Passat with a healthy appetite for coilpacks, too. But if I was going to spend new-Honda-Civic money on a car (which I wouldn't), then the S6 Avant would still be on my list. I love me some wagons, and I'd be willing to take a little pain of ownership to have one.

Oh, gee, I don't know... but 2 minutes on Craigslist located this [detroit.craigslist.org] which, for the same money, would be a hell of a lot more fun, a hell of a lot more useful, and wouldn't depreciate nearly as rapidly.

I've always thought Road America would be a great track for an F1 race. But the infrastructure to handle the traveling F1 roadshow is simply not there. And while it's sad that F1 will never make it to Elkhart Lake, it's also good to know that the greater Sheboygan area will not be despoiled by the construction it

Thanks for the perspective. Obviously, we'll just have to wait and see where Audi of America sets the pricing, but I was taken aback by the $111K figure in the article. Still not sure that the Audi will be a seller at a higher price point, especially when it's taking on the benchmark in the category.

Now, I realize that the $111,000 price tag on the RS5 is based on the price of the car in the European market, and that the cars we get here in the States are often less expensive. So maybe it'll be a little cheaper when it gets here. But if it's supposed to compete with the M3 (a $60-70K car), then it'll have to be

It's a good thing you're not a lawyer. Or a judge. Too bad you can be a juror, though.

There are much nicer Scorpions available for the same or less money. I love these cars, but...CP.

Just inevitable model bloat. Look at how big recent Civics are compared to the first Accords.

Didn't realize you had to pull a motor mount to do that job—I've had to pull motor mounts to do timing belts on transverse-engined FWD cars, but never to do a serp belt. So that explains that.

I worked in dealerships for many years—and yes, F&I managers say some of the stupidest things I've ever heard. In some cases, their attempts to scare customers into buying the warranty ended up scaring them right out of buying a car...

Regardless of whether this was actually a work order for his car or somebody else's, this is teh interwebz, etc... did anybody look at the actual line items?

Good call on the Beetle doors—looks like they used 73-79 convertible doors and cut the bottoms to clear the fender line. The windshield could be from the 73-79 as well, but it doesn't look quite right to me.

Definitely the easiest NP I've seen on here in a while. The old Volvo and original Bronco in the background aren't bad, either!

Much like the rest of the conversion, the upper radiator hose is, um, "interesting." I have to say that when I saw the picture and read that the conversion kept the original wheelbase, I was not expecting that the engine would be moved rearward, along with the dash, A-pillars, etc. I was actually expecting the
