I got that reference. Nice!

The first gen Z4 is a beautiful design. Back then people mocked the surface flaming and the Bangle touch but it really aged graciously.

I fail to see how that model is different than using rail freight.

Personally I do not know the production years! I couldn’t tell you if the ‘81 gen is a 964 or a 993.

Hi there fellow 280Z owner! Nice ‘77/’78! I can’t wait for mine to be complete again!

When you way “my” garage, does the bodyshop count?

Noone is blaming you, Max gave you an informed and helpful comment, and now you’ve learned something.

A few caveats: the Boxster is more expensive used, the Miata lacks a bit of oomph and the Nissan Z is fugly as a convertible.

You can fix that on early cars (I own a 2004). There's an adjustable spacer on the steering motor that can modulate the preload of the EPS gearing. That changes the vagueness of the steering. It's not a hard job but it requires you bending in cirque du soleil-esque positions.

Something that would help would be mandatory car inspections. Here in France you have to get your car through inspection every 2 years. That keeps lemons off the road and used cars are rarely going to kill you on maintenance as you know the basics are covered. Even 2k€ shitboxes.

Yes it’s scary. Here in France it’s illegal to rent someone a house that will cost tem more than 33% of your income. Same goes if you want to sell them a credit so they buy their home. To be able to sell someone a credit higher than these thresholds for a car is batshit crazy.

Any car you do not intend to drive is not worth collecting.

If that’s the bar that needs to be cleared, I expect your guys to make a post about the Datsun that I am rebuilding in a tiny ass garage in France (376 ft²). It’s even worse when the car isn’t stored vertically.

Awesome! I didn’t go through the trouble of the backing plate myself but it works fine without it. As for the intakes, I didn’t want to cut anything up, so I installed them behind the grille with zip ties. It sounds janky but it’s actually stealthy as hell. (Don’t worry, I trimmed the zip ties after the picture)

Oh we agree then. My point wasn’t that all mods are good, just that claiming all mods are bad isn’t right. I too shake my head at some mods I see on the street, like the douche who drives past where I work everyday with a loud ass crackling and poping exhaust in a ... Fiat 500.

These were just a few examples that applied to me specifically. I also installed uprated anti-roll bar tie rods. I can’t see any down side to these. Also, the Michelin Pilot Sport I installed last longer and perfrom better than the ones that came with the car.

Yes, the steering wheel part applied for my crappy ‘76 Datsun wheel but I don’t think it’d make much of a difference on my modern vehicles. I had my Z4 seat entirely redesigned to get better side support and lower back support. Now I don’t have to fight lateral Gs on trackdays and long roadtrips are way more

I’m a lazy bastard, I could to that and make a buck but I doubt the Z4-tracking-croud is a massive market and it wouldn’t be worth the effort.

Here’s one that applies to every car: ergonomics. Upgrading anything you touch is a good idea. You seat isn’t comfortable enough? Find yourself a good reupholstery place and have the foam reshaped. The gearbox feels bad? Get yourself a nice and heavy shift knob. The plastic of the steering wheel sucks? Cover it in

That’s just plain wrong my friend. How are better tires worse? Upgraded suspension (I’m not talking about coil overs but a nice set of Bilstein when the original shocks are worn)? Top quality brake rotor and pads?
