That (sort of) is my concern with Neuromancer.  It seems like such an influential work that reading it now would really lessen it's effect.  I want to start with something else so that I can see if I get into his writing, then better see Neuromancer as a part of his overall work.

I haven't read any Gibson, Should I start with Pattern or would you recommend something else.

one of the most awesome things I've seen was Trent playing NIN songs acoustic at the Bridge School Benefit.  It was three musicians, using all sorts of instruments to create the NIN sound with out electronics.  He won "Hurt" back from Johnny that night.
