All of these analogy comments miss the point - as does the writer. Apple has not right to brick the phone, it does not belong to them. If they brick the device they should replace or repair it at THEIR cost. If the owner uses a third party repair shop that is unauthorized that voids the warranty, not the device.

In that case what does ADT do, cancel your account, call you? You understand Apple broke the phone. The device doesn’t belong to Apple. It belongs to the customer.

The key is the devices, once purchased, belong to the owner, not Apple. Using unauthorized parts should void the warranty, not break the phone.
