Yowser. The good news is, the latest generation of nut runners can log the number of revolutions of the tool, not just the final torque, so at least they’d know that a bunch of screwturns were missing.

Well look at it this way, Chuck messed up ON ONLY 383 Outbacks out of over 12,000 sold so far. That’s 97% acceptable! Pretty good if I may say!
Torque one bolt down, then pull the trigger on the already tightened bolt 20 times so the system registers the proper torque 20 times. That just shows there should have been a log or check of number of rotations for each fastening operation instead of just a torque check.
And then they drove home in cars with “Buy American” stickers plastered all over them, and complained loudly when their friends and family started buying Toyotas and Hondas made by people that gave a shit about quality.
I’ve heard this story. This is what I’m thinking about every time somebody is shouting “BUY AMERICAN” on the internet.
If it was GM we’d get “Someone somewhere at one of our plants fucked up some bolts. Just bring it and we’ll take a look at it. Fuck you, have a nice day”
I worked as an engineer for a manufacturer of large yellow construction machines, specifically a plant that made excavators. There is a large ring that attaches the tracks to the rest of the machine with a couple of dozen or so bolts securing it. They used torque wrenches that actually recorded the torque used along…
I had a friend who worked for Ford for a week. He attached brake pedals. He admitted he attached them very badly. "If you are driving a Ford Taurus and the brake pedal fell off, I'm sorry, it was me."

I realize he doesn’t have an engineering degree, but the man is an engineer in my eyes. As I understand, he helps solve technical problems by offering his insight, just as an engineering manager does.
The door bags are more than just covers. They also have features to help secure them properly in the back, along with being form fitting so they actually protect them well. And they are strong enough to support the weight of the doors, and designed to be easily installed while the doors are still on.
Let me see if I’ve got this right...
What do you do if someone side-swipes you and breaks your mirror?
if you need reading glasses, you’d have the same problem with reading the gauge cluster.
Digital mirrors are fine. I’m using a digital rearview mirror and especially in darker situations it will show 10 times better view of what is behind me than an ordinary camera. Also the blinding effect is near non-existent because the screen can only get so bright whereas a well-directed high-beam even in your…
Another advantage I haven’t seen mentioned:
It is an existing dash that they retrofitted. It doesn’t make sense to completely redesign the dash for an expensive option that many cars won’t feature.
I’ve got a camera rear view mirror in my Bolt and its awesome. The first couple of days take adjustment, it now it feels natural. The angle is much wider, I dont have to worry about backseat passengers/headrests/cargo, and I no longer have to re-adjust the angle every time my wife drives it.
