That steering wheel won’t fly with EU regulations. Many have tried, even more have failed. Even show cars have to replace their wheels to normal round ones around here when they are being driven on the road. No “Knight Rider” type wheels allowed.

No indicators stalks I see
I do not enjoy the steering while, and frankly I’m surprised it’s road legal.
Yes, because the previous option was Ludicrous mode. What’s beyond Ludicrous? Plaid.
As mentioned in other platforms, overall this finally brings some cohesion to the lineup, but the acceptance of the steering wheel definitely remains to be seen (personally, I vote no).
The car is parked though in the picture (it doesn’t show that front view of the car on the cluster unless it’s parked). The video features also don’t work unless you are parked and the app is quite necessary for the target audience (for use when at charging stops).
Well the thing about pop culture is that it’s.. popular.
but I’m curious if any auto manufacturer has ever tried a steering wheel with a non-linear response to steering inputs.
Friend of mine has a P85 in Black and its clean and neat lines and luxury features are what made me say “Wow” and made me recognize Tesla as a real car company.
User name checking in. :-)
There have been a number of variable ratio steering gear designs attempted over the years. They ranged from purely mechanical steering racks with different teeth spacing in the center and the ends to systems using planetary gearboxes and electric motors to complete steer by wire systems as you describe. None of them go…
I remain cautiously optimistic.
The Model S is the only Tesla that truly looked good, so externally they didn’t break what didn’t need fixing. I’ll willing to cede that may be a missed opportunity, though.
That screen. Argh. I loathe the tablet jammed into the dash design trope. Hideous. Also, the larger, wider screen…
Wait, you think the S is bland? It is the best looking sedan made in the USA over the last decade. Nothing here comes close. Now the rest of Tesla’s line? Bland on bland with some garbage thrown in.
I’m pissed the plaid doesn’t actually have a plaid interior.
That’s when we’ll know Tesla has really made it.
I won’t argue that Spaceballs references aren’t childish, but I like them. It’s really the only thing Musk does that I enjoy. He’s really piggybacking on the goodwill Mel Brooks earned, but I like Spaceballs, so references to Spaceballs make me smile.
If there is anything good to take away from this, however, it’s that the new Model S finally has a gauge cluster. Tesla has moved the driver information out of the center screen to more effectively use that real estate. A simple glance down to check out things like your speed and your cruise control status is much…
Beat me to it.
The S has always had the gauge cluster. It's the 3 and Y that don't.
