You’re missing the point. In the US franchise system that you are claiming is superior in a situation like this, the team would already be dead or gone elsewhere. So how is that better for the fans, support staff, etc?

Then why are you making an unfavorable comparison to US sports, where—as I pointed out—the “club”ness of pro sports is even less true?

I think it’s not a bad thing to save owners from their own stupidity, especially when it’s really the fans and the support staff who end up paying the price. I’d argue the club belongs to more than just the people holding the money bags.

But the reason things got to this point is that they’re paying to keep up Premier League-ready infrastructure on lower-division income, and that’s before any misguided expenditures to shoot for promotion.

At least the US is immune from violence.

Other than this, promotion-relegation is an unqualified win-win for football clubs.

And also the Miami picks won’t be that valuable with or without Paul.
