That is a good question! I observed freight at the back of the truck which came between the bomb and Ben and Amy and they were saved when they were thrown clear. The driver was not thrown clear, so the gas tank exploding is a good assumption!

I am surprised that more people are not annoyed that Ray's death at the end of Episode 2, turned out to be a head fake! Rubber bullets? We have been manipulated, just as we were when Agent Cooper was ambushed at the end of Season 1 of Twin Peaks. In that case it was a bullet proof vest.
