The story did sound suspicious because why wasn't anyone watching the kid and why didn't he just yell to someone on the ground to go save the kid as that would have been faster than jumping down to save the kid.

This looks like an invented story to me. Seems like the fans were just being courteous and being quiet so he could talk.

Well the ending pissed me off so much. Congratulations! Congratulations! However, I know now they ran out of budget, but my problem isn't just the ending itself, but the direction the story took the last 1/3 of the show or so. That made me too angry to make up for the fact that I liked it up until that point.

I agree. NGE was one of the earliest anime I watched and it was great up until ep 18 or so and then it went to complete shit and is now one of my most hated anime.

There's been a huge leap in graphics from 2004 to 2014. You just need to look on pc for it. HL 2 looks like quite shit now to me, but was great back in the day.
