I don't disagree with historical facts, just the notion that a double-standard is appropriate in this context.

In the instance I was personally involved in, I wanted to attend because the book under discussion was American Gods, and I had just read that myself a few months earlier and loved it and was longing for discussion with intelligent people who had just read it.
