If only she smiled....less? God we just can't win, can we? Be brave, stand up for what's right, risk your career and life, and still get told you're presenting yourself wrong.

“I was focused on trying to be number one in my class and being captain of the varsity basketball team, doing service projects and going to church.”

Shouldn’t there be some kind of rule that if a guy belonged to a frat, he by definition shouldn’t be in any position of power?
Good.
Also don’t ask strangers for permission to touch them. If and when they choose to give you permission to do so, they will inform you.
When I was pregnant and had my braids I was constantly being touched. I didn’t know which was worse, the white women wanting to play with my hair on the public bus (??!?!?!) or literally everyone touching my stomach (?!?!?!) keep your hands to yourself.
At a previous job, two different white women touched my hair on two different occasions before I could catch them, saying themselves that I probably don’t like it, which I agreed with. After that, I got a t-shirt that literally said “Don’t touch my hair” and wore it to work the next time we had a company-wide meeting…
In the words of Atlanta's greatest, "Let me break it down child style so you don't miss": don't touch strangers without their consent.
This is one of those things, like tiny dogs in purses or hot beer yoga or whatever, where I’m expected to be able to explain the behavior of those who share my hue. I got fucking nothing. Kinda thought it was made up till a couple of years ago. Not because I didn’t believe my friends, just ... wut.
The unnamed donor allegedly texted Finlay that “we should get like half a kilo and pour it over the ABT [American Ballet Theatre] girls and just violate them.”
I wish I could find the quote, but in her acceptance speech, Pressley called out Capuano as a true progressive and thanked him for his 20 years of service. It’s not that Capuano did anything wrong—actually, he did a lot of things exactly right—but Ayanna was so clearly closer to the local issues and the communities…
I mean, it’s not surgery. But it IS very much a medical procedure that requires a sterile environment and tools.
“A county district attorney who investigated the case neglected to press charges, arguing that they did not exhibit any “cruel, oppressive or malicious treatment” toward Coltrain.”
Why is Oprah Winfrey responsible for Americans knowing Amercian History? Why are Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington, or Sam Jackson responsible for what is taught in American schools?
Most likely, even though we know he smoked both tobacco and pot, they photoshopped the cigarette in. It’s like the time they photoshopped John Kerry at an anti-vietnam rally where Jane Fonda spoke. Except there is a real picture of him at the rally because he was there.
Hannah Gadsby comes to the rescue in the old “Separate the art from the artist” argument:
I don’t know about the NYT, but I seem to remember Louis CK’s apology receiving mixed reviews, at best, on Jezebel. While some people did find his apology refreshing, many people also noticed that Louis CK made his apology all about himself.
I got banned from Jezebel for the abhorrent act of reminding a bunch of mourning white women the day after the election that this country was fucked up waaaaay before Trump took office.
