I don’t think people (in general) are that rational. Again, only a few people actually saw the Snap and know that it’s the cause of the disintegrations. It would take time for that explanation to circulate, and event then, there’s no particular reason people would believe it. With 9/11 the cause of the collapse of the

Er, 1492?

I don’t think it would necessarily unify people. The Black Death didn’t stop the Hundred Years War.

People do recover from cataclysms, but it takes time, and the movie seems to be set within a few days after the Event.

I’ve never been able to sit all the way through The Shining. I’ve tried several times, but I always get fed up after about an hour.

Why does school have to start so freaking early? If we can toy around with time itself, why can’t we toy around with school hours?

Most schools let out at 3:00, when it's still light in most places even with standard time. Kids don't commute home at the same time as adults. The real danger is in the morning.

Winter DST is really hard on kids, because the school day typically starts earlier than most people’s work days. I remember walking to school in the pitch dark back in 1974 when we experimented with year-round DST, and it sucked.

There was a study that showed that crows do recognize the human face specifically. They had people wear masks while catching and banding crows, which as you can imagine crows don’t appreciate. Then later different people wore the masks while walking across campus and the crows attacked them — but didn’t attack people

This is weird. If it’s some kind of ironic commentary about propaganda, it needs work. Otherwise, it’s just somebody misquoting 1984.

They got it wrong, though. Ignorance is not bliss; ignorance is strength. I hate to see the classics misquoted.

Clearly you’ve never had a run-in with well-organized NIMBYs.

Eleanor puts her fist in the cake, just as she did in Season 1, episode 4.

I think there’s always the possibility that everything we’ve been told so far is wrong. I thought that from the beginning of the show — not that I predicted the big twist, because I didn’t, but I was aware from the beginning that they had no direct knowledge of anything they were being told about how the system worked.

Re: Brumby Hall: in the US, the ground floor is the first floor, and the next floor up is the second floor, but in the UK and most European countries the ground floor is the ground floor and the next floor up is the first floor. Which system do you use in Australia? The sign Chidi is looking at has a ground floor but

That’s basically how I see it. If people can be made “good” with a little help, then it should be a moral imperative to help. As long as there’s no revelation of information about the afterlife, and therefore no expectation of moral desert, then Michael helping them is no different than any other environmental

Eleanor said it in th first episode of the series: “This system sucks!” I think the series has to eventually either overturn the good place/bad place system or reveal that it was never what we were told.

You’re either an idiot or a troll—maybe even both.

It is, and I hadn’t thought of it in ages.

I thought the link had been known for a long time. Mark Vonnegut writes about it in The Eden Express, which was published in 1975.
