Never too late!
Never too late!
Yup: “Don’t rock the boat. We have a successful gymnastics program. Can’t risk anything that might disrupt that.”
Yes. Also girls can be afraid of what might happen to the protective male relative if he becomes violent. They don’t want dad hurt, killed, or in jail.
I know you mean well, but sometimes women and girls stay silent precisely because they’re afraid of what their protective male relatives will do. As in “If I tell my dad and he beats the guy up, he could get hurt or go to jail. Better not say anything.”
Be the adult your niece can confide in. Make sure she knows that she can tell you anything. And hope that she never has anything terrible to confide.
Just about every parent has adults with whom they trust their child. As she points out, they were trusting him with her life on a daily basis. It’s only in hindsight that you realize “I shouldn’t have trusted that person.” But it’s impossible to get through life without trusting anybody.
It’s not a false accusation, it’s a mistaken identification. This is what happens in most cases of men wrongly convicted of rape. A rape occurred; it’s just that they got the wrong person.
Yuletide?
I just hope the Black women of Alabama can take this momentum and run with it, as in run for office, ladies!
I somehow couldn’t get up enough enthusiasm to watch Twin Peaks, even though it’s been well-reviewed. The original series had gone so off the rails as it progressed that it left a bad taste in my mouth.
When I got to the end of the list I had the impression that I’d watched maybe a third of them, but it turns out that I haven’t; I’ve just watched earlier incarnations of shows or read the books they’re based on. When I actually counted, I’d only watched two: Legion and The Good Place. Funny the tricks the mind plays!
Actually, in many parts of the country, white women voted heavily for Clinton vs. Trump. In some places, white people (male and female) voted heavily for Clinton vs. Trump. Hell, in a few places (e.g. Washington state) even white men voted for Clinton. So no, the problem with white voters is not evenly distributed.
I wouldn’t call him the fall guy. He handled the situation very poorly, even considering that he didn’t know who he was talking to.
Well, if you don’t see color, then you don’t have to think about it.
And I’ve worked for Greenpeace:
Yeah, that’s why I wrote “It may not work for everybody.”
Heh. I started using a mixture of baking soda and cornstarch instead of so-called deodorant about a year ago, and it works much better. It may not work for everybody, but for me it’s a definite improvement. Plus, you can use it on your thighs or neck or wherever you happen to be sweaty, not just the underarms.
I have fine, straight, rather limp hair, and I recently quit shampooing it, with good results. The thing is, if you shampoo every day, it takes 2-6 weeks of washing with water only for your scalp to adjust and stop producing so much oil. Of course, this presents a problem: who wants to look like crap for 2-6 weeks? I…
From a practical point of view, it makes sense for him to resign now, if he’s going to resign at all. Minnesota has a Democratic governor who will appoint a Democrat to replace Franken, but there’s a gubernatorial election in November 2018. Chances are a Democrat will be elected, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Next they’ll be going after Calvin Trillin for his (similar) satire of attitudes around Polanski:
