Yes, I am disturbed by the number of people who insist that rape victims’ lives are forever ruined and they will never be okay. We can acknowledge that rape is a terrible crime that changes peoples’ lives without that kind of absolutist defeatism.

I have been seeing “gosh, did you know that women are now reading/writing/watching SF, isn’t that amazing?” articles in magazines and newspapers regularly for as long as I can remember. Apparently the idea that women and girls like (and write) SF is so astounding that it requires repeated rediscovery.

I’m too old to do this. At my age ogling men makes you an object of pity, disgust, or derision. This happens to men, too, but much later in life.
