@stef schrader - if you could pass this along to Neil - there are two manual w123D gearboxes listed on Craigslist (SF Bay Area) - a 4-speed and a 5-speed.

The w123 has a auxiliary fan that could suck a golf ball through a garden hose, so I’m sure it’s OK.
I recognize that first action shot as Titus Canyon. Have navigated it a few times in a VW Thing. The miles of washboard getting to it from Ryolite, NV can be annoying, but the canyon is worth it. Would love to in my w123, too! Stunning drive for those who haven’t done it.
I saw one with Livery plates at Logan Airport about a year ago.
All I’m suggesting is we stop the whole pets-on-a-plane nonsense, not making commentary on who’s wrongdoing it was.
Maybe it’s just time to not let animals in the cabin, and go back to the old way of either subjecting them to a spot in cargo, or leave them home. I love dogs (allergic to cats), and would never consider air travel for them, be it in the cabin or cargo hold.
A guy in my office building got his shiny new Model 3 about a month ago. After three days, it was replaced with a loaner Model S that looked a lot like the one he traded in for the Model 3. He’s still driving that loaner, and doesn’t want to talk about it.
My buddy bought a used Geo Prizm back in the mid-90s as a commuter car. We all laughed at him. Last I knew (summer 2017) the car had just over 600k on the clock and has required little in the way of maintenance.
My first VW Thing was purchased from a house on Wintah Hill... Storied neighborhood, for sure!
Just think of the crack you could buy, instead of this.
Once you’re left stranded in Limp Home Mode or with the top down in foul weather, you’ll realize that the SL IS THE MAN, and you’ve been had. Best to have about 10k in reserve for issues, right out of the gate.
I used to travel a lot from Boston, producing Motor Trend Television (in the Speedvision days), and other shows for what was then The Outdoor Life Network. I’d return from driving some of the best cars on the planet on closed courses to my lowly VW Thing, parked in a dimly lit corner of Logan Airports economy parking…
MY MOP!
The website is actually a preview of the GUE (Gac User Experience).
This is interesting and all, but I’d like to see some 4k slow-motion footage of all the Cougars in our local bars hunting their prey.
Low-profile tires are the obvious choice for anyone serious about off-roading.
There’s no accounting for taste.
For daily fun, I’d rather still have my ‘73. If someone gave me a Schwimmwagon, I’d sell it so fast your propeller would spin. I have no need for a car that can’t be fully enjoyed.
