Bandwidth throttling pretty much makes any speed gains irrelevant.

I have very mixed emotions when it comes to speed runs. Yes it takes some cleverness to break the game in a still playable way, but fundamentally they are not actually playing the game. At best this like many speed runs has reduced the game to a series of flags.
