I know that sexual violence is an issue for women in Egypt, what it was less of an issue for was younger progressive women who's friends were progressive younger men. I lived in Egypt for a time and have heard the repeated stories of this disgusting act but the reaction was always one of disgust and scorn, it gave

While there are men like this in every country, it is the fact that this happened in such a large crowd in the middle of the street... It's not like saying someone snatched her into an alley, this was on the street with dozens if not hundreds of people around her.

I am not trying to be modest it really was the least I could do, they are friends and I lived in the same house as them when I was studying in Egypt. One of their fathers was a low level bureaucrat under Mubarak (he was killed in the uprising) and had helped me out on more then one occasion.

I think so, I have a good lawyer and already have jobs lined up for both of them...

I didn't really do much other then helping to secure the residency, I am only going because they will need help getting through the border... I tried to do it earlier, Egypt-Israel ties are going down the drain and it was not easy. One of the women needs surgery and every week we delay is putting her in more risk,

I am so utterly and completely shocked at what has happened to Egyptian men during the revolution... I don't understand it and I can't even wrap my thoughts around the many documented reports of similar actions that have been happening.

I agree, it's incredible that when I see someone smoking I immediately think negatively of them. I know its irrational but I find it vile and disgusting... I have found people attractive and then been completely turned off to either smell the smoke or know they smoke.

Her doctor did prescribe a medication to her, she said it made her nauseous so she stopped taking it. I don't know exactly what it was but you can be sure I am going to find out.

I don't know exactly what brand but she bought it at Costco, and I purchased her a bunch of flavored nicotine "jars" on line. She currently is down to about a half a pack of ultra lights a day and one or two cig worth of the ecig. She tried for a while to only use the ecig but she ended up needing the real stuff

I have such an irrational disgust for smoking and smokers that it really surprises me sometimes... When in the military (not US) I was actually forced to see a counselor because I could not get along with the smokers. I have actually ended perfectly fine dates when I have found out the person smokes.

My mothers cardiologist cited a few studies from Scotland and Switzerland that concluded that there are no long term (a 5 year study) side affects from the e-cigs... Other than increased dependence on nicotine any symptoms or effects of them will be removed once you stop the ecigs.

My mother has battled smoking for a loooong time, the only times she stopped smoking were when she was pregnant and an all to brief 4 year interlude, out of 30+...

I really don't want to sound condescending but what you are saying is so cliche and "talking point"ish that it is absurd. I have been an American citizen for a little over 3 years now, I have spent most of my life living outside the United States and your point completely escapes me.

I want to have a nice convo as well, I don't see why we cannot. "evo-psych bullshit" does not mean that there is not a certain amount of truth in it. The idea that because we BELIEVE something to be different even while everything around us tells it is not, is not a good way to start a conversation.

lol, I won't disturb your delusions or try to change your mind on this. There is not one psychologist or psychiatrist who will not speak in regards to violence as a fallback for lack of reasoning ability. I also won't disturb your delusion that men are simply lacking the desire to not punch someone.

Yeah, you did not read what I wrote. It has nothing to do with misogyny... Men who beat up anyone as a way of dealing with frustration or anger are more likely to be either severely mentally disturbed or lack proper education and parenting.

I of course don't agree, I have lived in many parts of the world and seen that violence is far more likely then nonviolence. The fact that violence in reaction to frustration and anger is more prevalent in children and in those who lack proper education and guidance should be enough evidence.

Altruism is not the opposite or mirror of violence, it is an act that gives the altruistic party satisfaction and joy. It is a uniquely human trait that is part of our evolution into higher brain reasoning.

While true that does not mean that a child who grew up in a conflict free home will not also turn violent and abusive. We are basic primates, we have evolved with higher brain and reasoning to suppress our ability to mimic those around us. Human rebellion is part of that evolutionary process, we try to distant

Violence is not innate, it is instinctual and not learned. Innate gives the connotation that it is natural and to be expected. It is not, humans poses higher brain functions and reasoning that has evolved to replace and mitigate our "natural" tendencies.
