It does, because unless that life event comes from an external pressure like a recession, the house has appreciated in value, and you can get out at a break even or better. The car has accrued additional costs on par with the total purchase price of the car, and has greatly reduced residual value.

Yup, that’s a big part of a lot of professions. Police, doctors, engineers, politicians, crossing guards, firemen, park rangers, etc. If you can’t handle the responsibility, you’re in the wrong profession.
