Merkur is just the German word for Mercury, but they apparently thought that giving the brand a German-sounding name would make it appear as European as the car actually was. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Love my XR, but it was kind of damned from the get go. Not to mention the unpronounceable name.

2 years in and I still smile every time I go into my garage. No matter how dirty or broken it may be at times, it makes me happy to remember I own it. That’s really all you can ask from a car.
