This is very insightful. The free market simply aligns producers to customers. If the producer fails to meet the needs of the market, some other producer will. The Big East stopped serving fans and other conferences drew them. That's about the extent of the market play here.

Socialism is a likelier candidate than the free market for the death of the Big East, given the conference decline tracked the economic decline of the region most enamored of socialism.
