As a public service, I encourage the readers of The Root, as well as the writers of The Root -the Rooterians or Rooterattis, whatever you fancy - to:

“Horton, Here’s a Poo!”

Yvan eht nioj?

I have a friend who’s a world-famous mommyblogger, and her circle is crawling with these people and it’s driving her nuts. The recession made it worse, because so many people lost their jobs and became desperate enough to try MLMs.

Yeah dude. The world’s a sitcom and every husband is a p-whipped bastard.

I forget where I saw this but attribution belongs to whoever that person was. It went something like this...

You hit on something with the word “insult”: So much of what these women are selling is very personal and, to me, it can feel like you are insulting their taste if you give a flat “I’m not interested”, as one commenter recommended. Because of course you are going to wear clothes or buy makeup or purses or skin cream,

Consider yourself lucky to have wised up quick and only lost $400.

You need to learn context. You are so sensitive to people saying things like “white privilege” or “male privilege” that you instantly ridicule anyone that says those words. In this case, it was used mostly as a joke. Not meant in a serious way at all.

There’s also a lot of desperation. When I was unemployed during the Recession, the only interviews I got turned out to be “opportunities” for Multi-level Marketing operations. I always turned them down, but I can’t say there wasn’t a 12-hour period here and there where my desire to rub riches in the face of all my

He’s right, you know.

Is it better than my method?

“So, if I am hearing you correctly, you want to spend $5,000 to buy clothes and then have strangers over on the weekend or have me handle them while I am at work (i work from home)?”

“Yes, what?”

“If you go forward with this, I am going to fuck the neighbor.”

“What does that have to do with...”

You handled that completeley appropriately and any “feminist” that disagrees can enjoy their newfound bankruptcy, I mean “riches”

All MLM’s are pyramid schemes. There is no meaningful difference between the terms.

It’s not even exclusive to dumb people. My wife isn’t stupid by any means, and correctly points my ass in the right direction constantly. All they need is to touch that greed impulse at just the right moment. They are master manipulators. Shut them down, and get out cheap.

Mine too. Amway “came back” when they thought we forgot about it. I have a brother in law who tried to get us in by talking about its “long history” as a company. My alley cats who eat damn near anything wouldn’t touch the cat food, and that shit is as expensive as doing your grocery shopping at your local gas station.

When you’re here, you’re the family member with diarrhea.

...oh and speaking of Amway, the founder’s daughter-in-law is now Secretary of Education!!! ‘Merica!!!

that is false. anyone who reaped “profit” under madoff’s ponzi scheme was subject to clawback from the trustee.

Multi-level marketing may not be a pyramid scheme, but all I know is that my parents got talked into Amway by friends and there’s still a dozen boxes of Amway laundry detergent in their basement 40 years later.
