Here's something weird: Does Whedon for some reason get MORE criticism because he calls himself a feminist and appears to make some effort to be one? If that WW script was written by some obvious Hollywood bro asshole, would people care?

The Black Widow scene and the Buffy sexual assault plot are both better than people are giving it credit for… and the inarguably shitty things he's done (like the WW script) get an unfair amount of focus. That was just as an example (you can disagree) but that's not really my point anyway.
The average american viewer in 2017 is pretty likely to have the same thought about the Amazons. More likely than back when Diana was first created. It's something that could have occurred to the screenwriters.
To play Vajayjay's Advocate, the whole metaphor of "Magic is Gayness oh no wait Magic is Heroin" got really, really muddled in there,
I'm not sure how I feel about my own reaction here, but isn't it, like, a problem that Wonder Woman just IMMEDIATELY starts romancing men right after she meets one, especially if she's apparently in canon bisexual?
Likewise, people can think a criticism of Whedon is unfair without thinking he's beyond criticism.
You know. People.
Part of it is that the ludicrous, flowery stage-direction that Good Writers fill their screenplays with are always horrible.
People are booing the booking, not the heel.
I don't like a man winning the Historical First Women's Money In the Bank.
Oh damn, you mean my heuristic that rich people are always bad doesn't led itself to nuanced, realistic political views?
I think he's actually pretty useful to keep an eye on, since he's the archetype for what later became the alt-right: libertarianish, religiousish guys who went fucking insane after 9/11.
That actually is the wonderful thing about this worldview: it actually MAKES SENSE that this would be the case.
See, but if the system is built to help people who don't work hard, now you CAN blame the system!
Oh! I actually didn't know that. I think it's a toss-up whether I should be glad of a black LGBT character or wince that she's called "Bling".
Gotta admit, I love superhero comics where the characters aren't actually being superheros.
…they're conflicted? Why would he describe them as having emotions that would inspire sympathy?
"Actual progressive" was, sadly, orthogonal to his appeal for a lot of people.
Yo, remember what I said about lots of Bernie fans being the type of people motivated by narratives with clear villains?
