Maybe this is the next game they’re remastering so they’re not releasing the current game on Switch? “If people play through VIII now, could that equal less sales for a remaster?” is likely what they’d be thinking.

People hate on VIII, but I think XII is much worse and gets way more love. VII, VIII and IX are a perfect trilogy, each offering something completely different. But hey, I also love XIII so maybe I’m fucked in the head.

VIII was my introduction to the franchise. I’d vaguely heard of VII in magazines but the art styles were different enough that I hadn’t put two and two together. So I have a fondness for VIII that most don’t and was kinda disappointed to hear it wasn’t being ported.

Sadly I have a feeling it’s because of the really good “Eyes on Me” song.
That game had a legit amazing soundtrack.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game and i have fond memories of it ( +one of the best music scores?). It is not the worst of the series. I’m not sure if you people played the rest of the series, but some of them are waaay worse story and gameplay wise.

It’s the simple fact that it came after 7. If this had been the seventh entry it’d be a different story.

I think it’s because the PC version is still based on the ancient version from the 90s and likely isn’t easy to port

I don’t really understand the blanket hate for the game. It’s just a solid entry in the series that did a few things different.

Ive said it before - Square Enix is incompetent. They don’t know how to make money. They manage to barely stay alive with a few hits but thats it.

I wish they’d bring it back. It’s better than both FF7 and FF10 in my opinion. Not as good as FF9 of course though. FF6 however will always be king.

Fifteen games in.

I hate reading people bagging on FF8. It’s easily my favorite FF game.

Then again, 7 isn’t even in my top three and people gush about it like it was the best ever.

It was easily my least favorite FF - I couldn’t stand the spell system and that alone is something that kept me from ever replaying it - but I know a lot of people love this game.  That alone makes me kind of surprised that a re-make isn’t on the way.

It’s because(I totally wish) they are going to remake FF8 entirely with the FF15 engine.

They’re still debating over the merits of the Squall is Dead theory internally. Can’t release until they decide that!

I loved ff8 as a kid. I never really understood why people hated it so much. I really enjoyed the story, presentation, and summon system.
