It's the same way with Nintendo DS games. For instance, the Pokemon games. At most retailers, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (released April 2007), and Pokemon Platinum (released in March 2009) still sell for $34.99. Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold (released March 2010) sell for $39.99.

It makes it easier for them to sell "Portal 2"-inspired clothing (like an Aperture Science tanktop) in the Valve Store.

I recently saw these guys open for New Found Glory in South Florida on their last tour. After their set, they made sure to tell people to meet them at the merchandise table where they had an N64 set up and would be taking on anyone who wanted to play them.

@verspasian: Motorola did not make the original. The original started off as the Danger HipTop. Software by Danger, hardware by Flextronics. After the first model, all the hardware was made by Sharp until the sixth iteration, the Slide. That was made by Motorola. The next two models after that were again made by
