Yeah - we want to pay more money for the same product and give a huge cut of the purchase price to not the author or publisher to encourage them to create more content for us in the future, but to Apple who played no role at all.
The carriers didn’t foot any of the bill back when contracts were the norm, and they still don’t today. On a contract your monthly payments included a phone (hardware) payment. The only difference was carriers like Verizon wouldn’t cut your rates once the phone was paid off, so you’d be throwing away $30 every month…
