This was explained on CNN that due to perspective it only looks like it is “nearly perpendicular”.......in fact the climb was at a 40 degree angle. The camera was above and at an angle that makes it look this way. The video is very impressive though as the pilot does do alot of non-regulations climbs and turns. CNN…

The solar sails don’t “produce thrust” any more than a regular sail on a boat does.
