I actually might agree with this

This is why I don’t agree that considering effects on children to be fallacious.

My point isn’t so much why individuals watch it, but why we as a people do. Better put: is it really worth it? It’s unnecessary—just entertainment—as you’ve just admitted. So is it worth putting all this effort into education, regulation, and whatever else is needed to ensure that people don’t get hurt. That’s what I

To go into debate mode though, I think a more poignant, if less likely, solution is a change in values. We can educate all we want, but that begs the question: why do we even watch porn to begin with?

So what is the reason you think porn performers are frequently abused? Perhaps you don’t think that and if so ignore this. I honestly don’t know how frequent it is, but I imagine quite.

Nah I probably was. I think lots of people naturally go nuclear, because of course they think they are right until someone helps show them they might be wrong. But you’re right, that can only (or at least most effectively) be done with calm, respectful philosophizing. Shitting on people that disagree with you, and

I’m on board with this solution

Anyways thanks for the dialogue. Someone else responded to me and mentioned how politicians are afraid to enact regulations on porn and prostitution out of fear of backlash from the religious right, similar to how they are afraid to do anything about guns out of fear of the NRA.

Yeah but my point is that without the regulations you’re always going to end up with the abuse/exploitation

Yeah I’m too young to remember Columbine, although of course I know about the outrage generated towards video games, Marylin Manson, etc. I’m more familiar with the video game bullshit from when Grand Theft Auto III was released. And I understand that visceral reaction. Perhaps I’m having it now with porn lol. But

My god. That might be more graphic than anything I read in the above post

On the topic of the Florida kids, I agree it appears they might actually force meaningful gun regulation

No need to pardon your French. Thanks for the insight. I can only imagine the issues with prostitution in the Netherlands. You guys have built up quite the reputation in that regard lol. That’s tongue-in-cheek, of course; but based on your response I figure it must not be good.

I, too, am an optimist. I don’t have children but I make an effort to consider children first when it comes to any issue, political or otherwise

Yeah it was certainly a mistake for me to imply there was indeed anything nefarious going on. Most of what has painted my perception of them is just how freaking adult they seem. It creeps me out lol

And to be fair, I’ve heard very little about video games in relation to guns since the latest shooting. I think Trump brought it up, no? I don’t pay much attention to him. I’ve heard way more outcry for legitimate gun regulation, to the degree that it appears it might actually catch on this time.

I would argue the abuse potential is higher in porn/sex and food than it is in video games. Less than in nicotine, opium, etc. And porn is unique in its taboo. A child or teen (or hell, adult) will hide their porn habit a lot better than even their smoking habit. That could be conjecture, but it seems natural to me.

You’re right. I said I was wrong in my assumption. Definite bias from me. Although I think there is more likely causality between child stardom and a shit life than a career as an accountant and a shit life. More bias from me, but I don’t like that equivalency.

It’s not. That was rash. I wouldn’t want to live the life of a child star, though.
