I'll add that Starman is probably my favorite DC book of all time. I love it for its unique sense of history, particularly around its depiction of the Golden Age heroes, the multiple characters who have worn the Starman mantle, and the Shade. For a big two title, I don't think there's anything quite like it. Tony

The GA run must be overpraised for standing out at a time where New 52 books were particularly dreadful. Its art was during DC's peak house style and looked like nothing else on the shelves.

Have you checked out Alias yet? It runs concurrently with Bendis DD and has some light crossovers. Those two books are probably Bendis' best work, aside from Ultimate Spider-Man.

If you haven't read it yet, I suggest going back and reading Annihilation! Its excellent and is the story that defines Nova for the rest of that run.

I found myself tiring of Saga during the last two volumes as well. The shocking character deaths are getting tiresome and are getting in the way of investing in the story. At this point I'm hanging on in hopes that it'll be similar to Y and have an amazing conclusion after a down period in the middle of its run.

I finished the Green Arrow by Jeff Lemire & Andrew Sorrentino Deluxe Edition hardcover. I have to say I'm ultimately a little disappointed. The artwork was just as groundbreaking as everyone said it would be and I thought it was worth reading for that alone, but Oliver himself seemed to be a bit of a cipher to me. I

I love how it depicts a slightly kid friendly version of 1980s NYC where crime is rampant and going outside is dangerous. As a kid, I think that tone left me a little uncomfortable but I really appreciate it now.

I think he's back. Deke fired him last episode, but then he was helping him out with the cops and took him to the hospital after accident with Sadies.

Oh me too, absolutely. That whole Clone Saga has no business creeping into my inter-company crossover!

The trainwreck continues! It's rare to see two coming while you're still several years out.

I really have no idea how they're going to keep him on for the next 2 very important movies. They were already nervous about the bad buzz, and this one has an even lower RT score than Man of Steel. They'd have to be morons, right? Spider-Man 3 was the highest grossing movie in the series and the reviews didn't make a

Fantastic Four (2015) had basically the exact same early audience reactions. I think people just get excited over seeing a movie before everyone else.

Miller drew it, but Janson inked it. I don't think Janson started doing his own pencils until around Batman: Death & the Maidens. He also recently drew Daredevil: End of Days.

My favorite moment may have been the end of the first(?) episode, where Superman goes home and changes back into Clark Kent, then looks outside and sees Batman staring at him with binoculars like a total creep. Supes glares at him for figuring out his identity. Meanwhile, Batman just waves goodbye and ziplines off

Sktchd did a really good Oral History of project. The implausible Lobo vs. Wolverine fight is discussed a lot, and the writers have a laugh over how there's no way they could make that happen.

I agree that the simplistic coloring can have an off-putting appearance on glossy paper. I don't know why they haven't tried to use newsprint again, but it's similar to hooking up an older gaming system into your modern hi-def TV.

I was so excited to finally see DD swing around on his billy club like Spider-Man. Too bad they held it off until the last episode :(

Reading those first few Essential Spider-Man books felt like the moment when I went from a regular guy who enjoys comics to a person who loves comics so much he comments on the AV Club weekly about it.

I think I read that Marvel discontinued the Essential books and has been replacing them with those Epic Collections that collect a ton of issues in colors. I haven't bought any myself yet, but they look like a solid deal.

DC's feuds are really odd. I just finished my Green Arrow by Jeff Lemire & Andrea Sorrentino Deluxe Edition and it had a very recent foreword by Mark Millar, who has sworn off DC as far as I know over their treatment of his Authority book.
