I was a pretty big Brian Wood fan before all the skeeviness came to light. DMZ was one of the last solid Vertigo books, and the Massive is even better. He's never been an A-list writer, but his efforts are usually consistent and there's no denying that he has a voice (X-Men titles excepted).

Fred Van Lente is great! I first discovered him during the BND era of Spider-Man and he delivered some very solid stories. I remember his issues with Chameleon and The Spot being highlights of the run.

I read it recently for the first time. It was a book that I kind of idolized growing up because I always saw the back issues at comic shops and thought they were so iconic and out of my price range.

It lasted for a few years. I remember Chris Claremont killed off Psylocke during X-Treme X-Men in a plot point that was meant to be short-lived, but then was told he couldn't bring her back. She stayed that way for some time until he was eventually allowed to do it in a later Uncanny X-Men run.

Season 4 of the OC is actually super great too, except it almost feels like a completely different show by that point. It's much lighter, especially in response to the terrible season 3.

I thought it actually helped that the identity of Ronin leaked prematurely. It made all the clues so hilariously obvious in an unintended way.

There are a ton of plot points that you'd expect to "pay off" in a conventional book. Off the top of my head, I imagine that a more audience-friendly book would do things such as:

The newest ANXM seems to be aimed to channel the positive, teenage X-Men vibe, and I generally like Hopless' writing. I'm not too thrilled about following the original X-Men any longer though, especially considering these are characters who are getting enough exposure in their adult versions. It disappoints me how

The "Standoff" mini-event seems to be one of the smaller crossovers between a couple of books, anchored around Captain America: Sam wilson. Civil War II will definitely be the next huge event, timed to coincide with the movie.

B:E just had so many useless subplots and varying quality between issues that I dropped off about halfway through. There would be an occasional solid issue followed by a string of useless stories that felt like fill-ins for the main plot.

It's gotten more confusing which books Marvel consider to be their "flagship" titles in terms of events and hype. During the last relaunch, I thought the flagship title was going to be Uncanny Avengers based on how they promoted it initially, but then it got caught up in ultra epic plotlines that clearly didn't tie-in

He definitely is. A few years ago, he and Bill Hader actually co-wrote a one-shot called "Spider-Man: The Short Halloween" with Kevin Maguire. In an interview, I remember them describing how Joe Quesada reached out to them and then they studied Ed Brubaker's scripts to figure out how to write a comic book.

SATXM was a surprisingly satisfying book and I'm confused why they haven't put Kalan on anything else. I've always loved teenage X-books and I wish this one ran longer than a mini-series.

After putting it off for a while so I could re-read the series from the beginning, I finally finished Zero Vol. 4. First of all: holy crap, I'd forgotten how strong the opening 10 issues of this series were. I knew I'd have to do my homework because I got the impression that the finale was polarizing. (Possible

I'm usually neutral or positive when it comes to Sudeikas, but I honestly thought he didn't work at all in this part. He's supposed to be a charming predator/ladies man who is simultaneously incorrigible, sexy, and lovable. Even knowing who he's married to in real life, I still couldn't believe a second of it. He

Even though Spider-Man 3 is definitely the better movie of the two, I think people were a lot more excited about it (and thus let down) compared to The Last Stand, which everyone knew was a stinker coming from miles away. Spider-Man 3 had some pretty amazing debut trailers before people started worrying about how

Blankets hit me at exactly the right time — in college, lovesick, and starting to grapple with my own difficult relationship with religion. I also grew up with a very close bond with my brother so I'm easily susceptible to "brother stories." Despite many superficial differences I had from Craig's upbringing, I had

I hear you on the gigantic series comment. Astro City is another one of those for me. I've never known how to jump in, and as far as I know there aren't any omnibuses or giant collections to make it more efficient or cost-effective to jump in.
