Yes, the article on Jezebel blasting the song was so misguided. It is not the writers/performers "fault" that the song got super popular. It got popular because they were already mainstream due to their hit "Thriftshop". Without the success of Thriftshop no one would have heard Same Love.

The Same Love "controversy" is incredibly stupid. Basically it's people being outraged at the media for saying it's revolutionary, when "Homo Hop" has been a thing in music circles for a while, with more personal songs about the gay experience as performed by gay rappers.
