When I was a kid, I was fat, and my doctor would just tell me over and over again how I was just going to get fatter and fatter. You're right, actual examples of racism by politicians is evidence. Saying "I once heard my friend say blah so Italians on the street are just as racist," isn't.

I don't think your one Italian friend saying something racist means that Italians as a whole are racist. I mean, I've heard a lot of Americans say a lot worse, and I wouldn't say the one quality that marks all Americans is "open racism."
