It's a problem because racist stereotypes aren't always about making shit up; they're often about taking positive or benign things about a people or culture and turning them into a mockery and an insult, injecting shame to sabotage pride. The result is a particularly insidious form of denigration that forces a wedge

Every single one of his posts is either a white whine complaining about how it would be a "double standard" if the roles between a black and white person were flipped, or a direct hate message to gawker and it's writers.

J-Dog is a huge racist, anti black troll. Don't believe me? check his comment history.

I mean yeah, that's possible and likely but we can't just assume that's why. He could have had some serious mental health issues as well. I'm not being bullied but during my depression periods and especially around my period I seriously contemplate it. Either way it's a very sad tragic situation and the adults in this

I was bullied by this girl in middle school. I did everything right: went to the principal and told her what happened. The next day, me, my mom, the girl, her mom, and the principal all sat down in a room together. Basically, nothing happened. The principal allowed me to stay home that day and the girl got 0

Oh, fuck this. I'm guessing he was being bullied at his school and the adults couldn't be bothered to do anything to rein in the little shits, just like it was when I was a kid. The excuses were always, "oh, they need to work it out themselves," or "oh, honey, just ignore them, they're jealous," or other bullshit

I actually think there is a sensitive and nonracist way to celebrate the cultural food traditions of African Americans. Maybe fried chicken is too loaded with negative racial stereotypes. However, there are several American cuisines created by or strongly influenced by traditions from the African American community.

I think that's why its important that she stressed the question of "why aren't there more?" As much as I enjoy marvel and the many indie comics I read with strong, female leads DC has my favorite characters. To tell someone "well, just ignore them and look over here instead" isn't holding the people responsible

Did she miss the press release for Marvel's A-Force? There are plenty of female superheroes out there.

your fuckin awesome jen, i just replied that to someone else, she's 11 all she knows is teen titans, she hulk nah no cartoon ms marvel nah no cartoon oh teen titans i love how starfire and raven spend a majority of the show talking about kissing boys and shopping, way to go dc

Yes, an 11 year old needs to "do her research" by wandering around in comic book stores looking at any and everything regardless of whether it's appropriate or not.

maybe that's why she was only referring to DC. Maybe DC comics are her favorite and just wished there was more female super heroes in DC who aren't overly sexualized.

At least they left off watermelon?

If the article is correct about her words, she didn't ask why there aren't any female superheroes, she asked why there aren't MORE.

Girls got the right idea. It's not about taking away. It's about creating more. We should never stop creating!

You don't need the costume, girl, you already are a hero.

This just feels like PR spin doctoring to me. DC only wants this story to disappear from the nerd news cycle and go away. The usual lip service about "working real hard" to balance the gender discrepency gets trotted out and then it's back to business as usual (cuz business is good). Let's not pretend that (a) DC is

One of her complaints was the ridiculous, loud, impractical costumes, so they drew her in a ridiculous costume.

Psha doesn't she understand comics are for adult men? No need to cater to minority special interests like WOMEN.

She wrote to DC Comics about this, which tweeted at her, "Thanks, Rowan. We agree, we're working hard to create more superhero fun for girls!"
