It's a problem because racist stereotypes aren't always about making shit up; they're often about taking positive or benign things about a people or culture and turning them into a mockery and an insult, injecting shame to sabotage pride. The result is a particularly insidious form of denigration that forces a wedge

Every single one of his posts is either a white whine complaining about how it would be a "double standard" if the roles between a black and white person were flipped, or a direct hate message to gawker and it's writers.

J-Dog is a huge racist, anti black troll. Don't believe me? check his comment history.

I mean yeah, that's possible and likely but we can't just assume that's why. He could have had some serious mental health issues as well. I'm not being bullied but during my depression periods and especially around my period I seriously contemplate it. Either way it's a very sad tragic situation and the adults in this

I was bullied by this girl in middle school. I did everything right: went to the principal and told her what happened. The next day, me, my mom, the girl, her mom, and the principal all sat down in a room together. Basically, nothing happened. The principal allowed me to stay home that day and the girl got 0

Oh, fuck this. I'm guessing he was being bullied at his school and the adults couldn't be bothered to do anything to rein in the little shits, just like it was when I was a kid. The excuses were always, "oh, they need to work it out themselves," or "oh, honey, just ignore them, they're jealous," or other bullshit

I mean, I disagree with you in some ways because office events are often lame and I don't care if I'm invited or not. No one is due or owed an invitation to anything. But, to give context to the situation, the group of friends were bringing in their own dishes and having their event in the building eating/cafeteria

I actually think there is a sensitive and nonracist way to celebrate the cultural food traditions of African Americans. Maybe fried chicken is too loaded with negative racial stereotypes. However, there are several American cuisines created by or strongly influenced by traditions from the African American community.

He accused the Black employees who planned their own event of "segregation."

Sadly, he's still around that office, but I know he was basically never allowed to be involved in planning office events again. That was all the administration could do since they themselves (via the Office Manager) approved his Black History Month event and email before it went out to all the staff!

crediting yourself in an apology is classy AF

Oh, it wasn't my event. It was a group of co-workers who were also friends. They planned something for themselves to do on their own lunch time. But, to answer your question, yeah they still had their event (of course it was the same date and time as the office event—they just didn't go).

"to our credit" sounds like he wants a pat on the back for removing the racist content. Seriously white people, don't expect cookies when you acknowledge racism.

Wowwwww.

Fried chicken has to be marinated in concentrated stereotype and served on a bed of casual racism to be truly considered a delicacy.

Exactly. Fried chicken is delicious. Just eat it. Leave black people out of it.

At least they left off watermelon?

This has to be about the tenth time I've heard of such an incident.

"I apologize to anyone hurt by the display," Hopkins wrote. "To our credit, the menu was quickly removed."
