Check out Tomahawk for more FNM+noise rock sounds, Fantomas for insanity, and his score work for a variety of sounds, especially Crank: High Voltage, which is practically a masterpiece.

I think the newest one provides a good entrance point. Other than that, Angel Dust would be good, although it does a have a little bit of what you don't like in it. Album of the Year is also a great one to start of with. Avoid the others until you've decided you like them (which will happen, trust me) and then do

What? No Faxed Head CDs? They are the BEST. BAND. EVER.

Yes! I agree with that wholeheartedly. I'm not even a huge Sloan fan, to be honest, but I love Twice Removed. I actually haven't really heard this record, but listening to all the songs listed here, it doesn't sound quite as good (better than I thought though, so I am going to take a listen)

They are awesome, but their catalog is intimidatingly large. Which one(s) are you listening to? There's such a wide variety of sounds.

Calexico
Calibro 35
Cave
Child Bite
Circle (wow, how do you not own ANY Cirlce albums, dude?!)
Comets on Fire
Couch
Cracow Klezmer Band
Curse of the Golden Vampire
Cyberaktif

SIgh. I'd have to do the same thing if like 70% of my music collection hadn't been ruined beyond saving my a flood. Still hurts more than 6 years later…

Also want a shout out to Failure's "Fantastic Planet" album, which is as amazing today as it was 20 years ago!

I have a very clear memory of Pepsi Power Hour premiering both "Smells Like Teen SPirit" and "Alive" on the same show with her sort of just being "meh" about both of them. She actually made a joke about the length of Nirvana's songs improving to beyond the three minute mark. Pretty sure that was Roncon hosting, but

Being Canadian, all I had was MuchMusic. So Theresa Roncon! So awesome. Had a huge crush on her.

I am loving this record - thanks so much! I started with Gates of Steel b/c I've always loved that song (the original by Devo and the cover by Junkyard Dogs) and now I'm at the end, If the front half is as good, this is killer.

If it's close to as good as their previous score (Les Revenants), then this will be awesome. Totally looking forward to this.

Psyched about a number of these, especially Patton/Kaada, FOTL, Greys, Child Bite, John Carpenter. Finally, 2016 seems to be getting underway. Been a slow start!
Right now, all I've heard that really got me pumped was Ty Segall, Rob Crowe, and Mugstar (and the Rob Crowe one did not blow me away as much as I had

I've met him and talked to him, as have several musician friends of mine. He is actually a really genuine nice guy. He has his own opinions and expresses them strongly, but not in an obnoxious way. I really enjoyed talking to him.

I'd bet that he skipped the section on Butthole Surfers. He does not have good feelings towards them at all.

Yikes. I remember a few of his Agent Carter reviews going off the rails too, but nothing that bad. This is what's coming out of university these days. I suspect it's just the way things are going to be in the near future…

Totally agreed. Instead of jumping all over a guy who actually created something deep and emotionally moving about transgender people, why not spend that energy going after someone on the right who equates them with sexual deviants and child molesters? Get some fucking perspective already, geez….
