The reason they were on NYE this year in the first place was that the Rose Bowl (and to a lesser extent the Sugar Bowl) refused to move from their New Years Day time slots. They are the playoff bowls in 2014, 2017, 2020, and 2023. But 2 out of every 3 years, that’s the issue.
