It’s easy to change Carol’s origin and stay true (somewhat) to the comic canon. Just have her powers be a side-effect of the same TAHITI protocol Coulson underwent. This way there is the Kree connection and a further means of inter-connecting the film and TV sides. Coulson could even do a cameo.
