It just opens and immediately shuts down. The menu bar icon closes too.

@icecreamman: I stopped using my TV and switched completely to Hulu. Saves time with shorter commercials and I get to watch shows on my awesome monitor instead of my crappy TV.

The answer is quite simple: plug it in and take the battery out (although I do realize you can't do this with the new Mac notebooks).
