There’s a lot of anti-black sentiment even among nonwhite New Mexicans. A long history of scapegoating native and black populations to “legitimize” the hispano population to anglos is one of the state's dirty secrets that isn’t well publicized.

I’m genuinely surprised that so many people ENJOY having casual friends/acquaintances. That is my absolute least favorite kind of social interaction. I end up having to really lean into my public persona which is a huge energy drain. With close friends, I can just be myself.
In my city, there's been a huge push to cut back on prescribing opiods, which mostly just seems to make them difficult to access no matter the situation. I had a displaced fracture (clearly visible through xray+intense swelling) and it took more than 24hrs to get+fill a prescription for pain meds. Sometimes I wonder…
I did this unthinkingly with my cat when I found her as a kitten because I knew nothing about kittens, but quite a lot about puppies. To this day, she loves belly rubs and is primarily a back sleeper.
One of my cats is fine with this, but gets bored of being held (and she’s about 14 lbs so I get tired of carrying her). She lets me put my whole face on her belly though, so it balances out
I’m in NM (part of the “mountain market,” I assume) and I would assume that “chili con queso” DOES refer to a meaty, tomato-y stew with cheese on it so I figured this chip was trying to emulate a frito pie. “Chile con queso,” on the other hand, makes me think of melted cheese dip with yellow or green chile mixed in.…
I’m an adult who has struggled with disordered eating and its really hard to avoid something that autoplays
I’ve always struggled with enjoying instrumental music--especially classical music--but I’ve found that I tend to enjoy classical music from time periods in which I enjoy literature. I really do struggle with anything earlier than Schubert, unfortunately.
I also have long but really blonde eyelashes (but not blonde hair, so its extra weird). Lately, I've just started to lean in on looking weird without mascara because I can't find any I like. Although, the new loreal voluminous in burgundy is rekindling my interest.
I grew up with dogs and always thought cats were aloof. Now I have cats that are noisy and demanding and higher maintenance than a dog except that they poop in a box. I love both my cats, but walking anywhere in the house is like wading through a sea of cats.
People don’t trust doctors because it is not often in their best interest to do so. Years and years of terrible experiences with tons of different doctors creates patients who are suspicious and yes, probably difficult to deal with. I get that doctors have a hard job, but the near total lack of empathy for patients tha…
Yeah, it is always weird when bi folks are omitted from this kind of study. I get the sense that I'm a lot more assertive about what I like and what I don't because I'm bi. Ofc, bi women are also disproportionately likely to have been raped, and I'd also say that dealing with the aftermath of abuse has forced me to…
I think its one thing to breed an animal that is healthy, functions without significant intervention, and is able to move and breathe comfortably. But man, it freaks me out how popular brachycephalic dogs have gotten lately.
I absolutely agree. Because of food sensitivities, I can’t eat tomatoes or peppers, so homemade ketchup is the worst. Store bought ketchup is so processed and contains so little tomato that I can still eat it in moderation. Each bite of Heinz ketchup feels like forbidden fruit, the last tomato-ish thing I get to eat.
The bulk of what I buy on amazon are books. Local bookstores don’t have most of what I need or want. When they do, each book costs ~$5 more than on amazon. So yeah, I don’t get prime pantry and that kind of thing, but you’re really overestimating what local businesses carry in some cities.
I mean, if they’re bringing their anti-vax stance to pet ownership, that might happen.
That’s absolutely true, but rabies is much less common in the US than it used to be because of largely successful campaigns to get people to vaccinate their pets and reducing transmission to humans. What happened in Bali a few years ago definitely speaks to that.
This is all pretty helpful and comforting. I might ask my therapist for a psychiatrist referral to talk about options. I’ve been in therapy for about a decade and its nearly obliterated my previously severe anxiety, so I have no plans to stop that.
Sometimes I wonder how anti-vaxxers feel about the rabies vaccine. From everything I’ve read, dying of rabies sounds truly awful.
