The same thing almost happened to me. I freaked out when I found out about that, because in Mario games, I tend to throw myself off ledges if I don't like how a level is going, or if I think I missed something. Luckily, I still got the Glittering Stars, but DAMN if that game just feels like it never ends!

I didn't like the art style much at first either. It grows on you though, whether that is to its credit or against it. If nothing else, Oda is extremely talented, and his art remains consistent.
