I had never heard of his books until you mentioned it. They look cool. Honestly, when you wrote, “Little Shaq Books,” I thought it was a pun on “Little Black Book,” and I thought that maybe Shaq has a line of address books. Lol.

Agreed. I wish one of the parents would say they wanted them to add other religions to their class. I’m sure that class would be cancelled soon after.
No, no, he’s totally right. All you need to do is put everything biblical that IS supported by extra-biblical evidence in column A (“History”) and everything else goes in column B (“Parable”). And if there’s something really important, TOO important for Column B, we’ll just keep looking for all that historical…
Yeah, I was on their side until I saw that it was during the school day. Then even more outraged that there’s not even an alternative class for kids that opt out.
The Catholic Church has plenty of flaws (possibly the understatement of the year) but biblical literalism isn’t one of them. No priest would suggest learning world history from the Bible.
“There is a great deal of not just poetry and prose in the Bible, but from what I’ve read almost every piece of history that’s in the Bible has eventually been proven,” says Rev. Ray Hurt, who preaches in Mercer County. “We see the Bible not just as a book of faith but as a pretty accurate account of history that…
The Bible tells us The Bible is true; therefore The Bible is true.
“Or if you are the 5yr old and not the adult using this as an example.”
Yeah, I didn’t understand that part. How the fuck is it not state funded if it’s taking place at school, during the day.
There’s a whole lot of Valarie Hodges out there, assuming “religion” always means Christianity, usually their particular flavor of Christianity.
There’s a thing going around facebook complaining about how America is “soft” because they took God out of schools and discipline out of the home, etc etc etc. and I’m over here like...if you want your kids to be religious, teach them and take them to church. Don’t put that on the schools. And so many of the people…
Yea. I mean, it does have important insight- in the same way that The Odyssey or The Epic of Gilgamesh do. Books with magical stories are rarely very accurate historical (or scientific) records, though.
The kids all want to do fun stuff like sports after school, the parents know they have to have the indoctrination session in the middle of the school day or nobody will show up.
“This is a loser for the school district,” Charles C. Haynes of Washington DC’s Newseum tells the Post. “It’s difficult to satisfy the First Amendment in elementary school when it comes to the Bible. Students at that age really aren’t prepared to tell the difference between what is history and what is religious…

Thx for that context and thx for the link.
I think as someone stated above, it’s more a broader definition of racism that includes bigotry, Maybe seeing the full quote would help. From the linked article, he said:
I love how people think that saying it’s a joke somehow negates the fact they’re being racist or sexist. Who cares it’s only a joke!! Said every bully ever.
Hey, I’m sorry. This is counterintuitive, but it’s what I was taught and it worked like a charm for me.
