Hm. This is the wrong version of the review — the edited-down print cut. The online version is longer and has a spoiler space. We'll have to get that fixed this morning.

Miss Croatia just hopped off the Yellow Brick Road, and Miss Curacao is clearly bucking to be the next Hawkgirl. But my favorite is Miss Bolivia. "Our country has Crab Claw Flowers. Lots of them. And that's about it."

For myself, I really wanted to see that movie. It played in Chicago for a week, and I missed it. It hasn't been released on DVD. Review screeners and streaming weren't available. So there just wasn't an option. Same with THIS IS NOT A FILM. I'm still very much looking forward to seeing both.

Les Mis wouldn't have found a berth on my list for reasons I can't go into here (one of the conditions of advance screenings is that we're embargoed from talking about films ahead of release) but Django is a strong contender.

You know, not in terms of films that exceeded my expectations and did exactly what they intended to do on all fronts. There are a few on the conjoined list that I didn't see, including AMOUR (but I tend to have problems with Haneke's films even as I respect their craft, much like with Lars von Trier) and DEEP BLUE…

I'll defend anything on my list over Killer Joe, which I was very much in the minority on loathing.

It likely would have made my list too. (And I've seen it at this point.) But there was only one screening, right before our list-making deadline, and most people didn't have the opportunity to see it.

Very close overall. A few things are different, like bin Laden has a grey beard and they don't cover the Pakistan refueling. But I notice that report is also pretty vague on the exact moment of the killing.

It’s interesting to me that Zero Dark Thirty largely dodged the debate on whether bin Laden was armed and/or resisting when he was killed. I was braced for a defiant statement on that one way or the other, but it essentially happens offscreen. What we see certainly does lean away from the official story about him…

@avclub-d0cf409eb912cc0cc950b41b6d892d07:disqus You just posted at the end of an ENTIRE THREAD answering that question over and over.
