Well, and to many other things in the series. Pretty much every major arc involves Rick pushing the group in some direction, and something eventually going horrifically wrong.

I'm right with you, @avclub-638c1a4f003b46aad4aa5cf3f424d215:disqus . I'm really waiting for the Negan storyline to distinguish itself from the Governor storyline in some way that doesn't either revolve around a big splashy character death or around strident detail like the lengthy "Your shit is our shit" speech,…

Also, what's the option here? Kirkman writes a lot of characters who get to the point and say what's on their mind because it makes the story move along rapidly from point to point, and distinguishes the characters from each other. I prefer that to an approach like the one in "Lost," where you have 40-odd people…

That'll learn me for still having not read "Triffids." I read Wyndham's "Chrysalids" earlier this year for the first time, and was planning to go back for Triffids once I get some of the book backlog off my plate. Guess I did those in the wrong order.

I agree that the series has gotten redundant, especially with Rick going through the same "I've lost my humanity!" breast-beating cycle over and over. I do wonder, though, whether it would have been possible to get that strongly into other people without losing focus. That said, I'd be surprised at this point if…

"they did get the guns, and without them, EVERYONE would have died when the zombies came. "

I'm in the same boat. I read the whole thing, but I got so tired of his attempts to one-up himself in terms of grotesquery and obscenity.

Or kind of a byproduct of a lack of options. The details vary widely, but in the "should we stay or should we go" debate, there are really only two options. I think the difference between Rick and Shane in that sense is that no matter how often Rick urges the group to settle down and stay in one place, it isn't…

I'd give it at least one more book, @avclub-e2f2ff3de77732967d7c107696063888:disqus . The next book brings a new artist (who took over for the rest of the series to date) and a much more expansive tone, and is much more like what the series will continue to be from here on out.

That still bothers me too. Narrative cheats are bad enough without art to make it clear that they're really serious narrative cheats.

Who's Johnny? There was this one guy named Johnny, but he was a total geek, he always had food in his braces.
