An apparent disagreement with my belief that I should be protective of my kids if said belief projects fear onto my kids.

I want to be civil with this, and I'm having a difficult time doing it, but here goes;

If you want more rage, about 50% of the local news story comments have been either variants of "why are we not focusing on the poor truck driver?" or "HIS parents had a SON, that SON committed such a selfish act, and we should feel sympathy for HIS parents." (both paraphrasing)
