How can a language be horrible?
You're actually using the American equivalent when you use "America" to refer to the "United States". It's a synecdoche and it's pretty harmless as things go. But maybe it's became I'm English myself that I find it hard to take offence or even correct people when they do this.

Personally I think if you're not a judge but still feel as though you have the expertise to be disagreeing with one without backing up your statement with anything approaching a rational explanation for your view then you should be horsewhipped, placed on the rack and then hanged by the neck until dead.

This does my head in. For me the problem is that on occasion, other people coming on to the network (and sometimes even my own phone) bumps me off. I've never found a single foolproof explanation as to why.
