when railgun technology enters its operational phase, you’re going to see battleships again. they’ve been retired because conventional guns were outgunned (sorry) by cruise missiles and aircraft, but when hypervelocity munitions become useable, they’re going to be much more cost effective weapons than cruise missiles

what about what the MIB said about “cost cutting”? it’s not too hard to believe corporate bean counting would lead to “lack of advancement” in tech (it’s not like we can put another man on the moon now, for example, only the Chinese are trying and for them it’s the first time).

... I think the bigger problem with the 40k universe isn’t “fragmentation”, it’s that you have an Immaterium with Chaos Gods thirsting for blood and in the galaxy There Is Only War :-P

speaking of Robotech... I actually like what Carl Macek (?) etc. did with it - I felt they managed to mesh Macross/Southern Cross/Mospaeda together really well, in a “whole is greater than sum of its parts” way. So in a certain sense “Robotech” as a name represents something uniquely different from its constituent
