Agreed. I am not a fan of this article’s tone at all. Big names, especially those who proclaim to be feminist, need to be speaking out. Feminism is more than “girl power” and “squads.” It’s not detracting from the larger issue. It’s a part of the larger issue.
Oh I absolutely agree. I was just not taken with the tone in this article/”For those of us under the impression that the actual people who failed Keshawere her abuser, her record label, a corrupt judicial system that values corporate interests over personal safety—we were wrong! The real people at fault? Feminists!…
Somehow, I don’t think someone who’s been outspoken in her advocacy for mental health is going to advocate for a survivor of sexual assault with the sole intention of personal gain. Forgive me for not being so cynical as to not extend her the benefit of the doubt.
Well.... she’s not wrong. 2 of the most powerful women in music, who use feminism as part of their brand, have said absolutely nothing about a shitshow in their own industry.
Not really seeing where Demi’s blaming feminists? Besides, I thought we were all in agreement that after this ruling, the only way Kesha would be able to receive what she wants is through pressure on Sony from inside the industry itself.
Demi is CLEARLY shading T Swift, right?
My heart goes out to Kesha, but it sounds the judge’s hands were tied. This case was strictly a matter of contract law. If the judge ruled in the artist’s favor, she would be setting precedent that any contract could be broken simply by alleging- not proving, simply alleging- abuse.
what if... that were the obvious point of this essay
Well, it makes sense, since so many of his victims had “criminal records.” They probably worry that some of those records might connect them to somebody with the means and possible opportunity to cause whatever prison he ends up in a liability headache.
Exactly. Vacation fling. We’ve all been there.
Right. They’re just pretending he’s in jail, actually the DOC released him secretly this week, and he’s now shacked up with Casey Anthony in Florida and they’re super in love.
Fuck you for advocating for more violence in America’s prison system. Violence in our prisons is a real problem and the fact that people are advocating for more is disgusting.
Not for nothing, but it’s pretty regular for VINE to not be able to find someone in the system based on the simplest of mispellings (not implying that you all misspelled anything, though). The asshole who attacked me had his name spelled three different ways just on the first page of the police report so it took me…
I’d imagine it is because as a cop he has also likely arrested people(and will be serving time with some of those arrestees. I’d imagine they are trying to avoid him being murdered in prison. Although, I am not sure why that would be much a of priority (over other prisoners).
If this information is no longer available because inmates who are former policemen are at higher risk in prison and have to be protected, I don’t have a problem with this. If it’s done for some other reason, it’s shady indeed. I mean, paedophiles and certain other types of offenders (like those under witness…
I’m from India and while I don’t speak for all Indians, I think you’re welcome to. Honestly most Indian people are delighted that foreigners would like to dress up in traditional Indian wear. A lot of that delight does come from the fact that India suffers from a serious colonial hangover where being “white”-like and…
I like it as long as it’s not a once a week type thing? Like, as long as it’s just an occasional diversion, it’s pretty nice.
