Can confirm, it’s caused by cold temperatures and/or temperature fluctuations. I was in the Explorer on a cold day when it cracked. We heard a loud sound from the back. When we stopped and inspected we found the crack on that panel going right through the Ford badge.

I agree. We need to drastically deregulate automobiles and let the free market do it’s thing. Fewer mandatory safety regulations could really improve the driving experience and pricing on modern cars. And for people who really want the extra safety, the market would surely still cater to them, too.
