That’s awesome. Yeah I had considered Japan too. There are a couple programs at places like Waseda in English, but they’re almost all in Japanese.

When I studied at HKU I found I was able to mostly avoid painful culture shock, and I really enjoyed the differences. But when I studied abroad from HKU to a university in Japan, that’s where the real culture shock set in. Japan was cool but there is definitely a Japanese way of doing things and many unwritten

It’s ironic right? Foreign students in America pay huge tuition fees, while American students can go to universities abroad and get great deals. We still often pay more than locals though. My HKU fee was 2X the local rate or something—and I still saved a lot of money compared to the USA.

I am not aware of Peace Corps discounts but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. And yep! The reduced prices are also at grad schools. Few schools, except those free ones in Europe, will beat community college, but if you were considering an expensive private school many great schools like the University of Sydney are

That’s an amazing price, and Catalonia is beautiful. Sounds like a great deal!

It really depends on the country. If you’re in a country without English as a first language, you can probably easily find English teaching jobs. Legal requirements are another factor. In Hong Kong, as I recall, you could only work through the university. I know other countries have differing requirements. Although

I think one reason studying in a different country has been confusing for many is that “foreign countries” are literally the rest of the world. There are many great foreign universities, and then there are many bad ones too—just like in the States. That’s why it’s good to check out the THES or QS global university
