Did the radio announcement in Season 3 say that he had committed suicide or had ATTEMPTED to commit suicide? I can't remember.

The whole point of showing Gus straighten his tie though is that it was supposed to elicit a response of disbelief in the viewer that Gus couldn't have survived that blast unharmed. In that way, it worked terrifically.
