And see, that's why I just skip all the jargon and get to the meat of it: the games are subsidized. You pay a monthly fee. Ergo, not free.

...so it wouldn't look like Mario Galaxy/3D World?
*subsidized games.
I'm just here to say I appreciate Evan and his commitment to the Dapper. #menswear
I know this isn't the point being made, but it doesn't have to be either/or. One necessarily isn't better than the other, and you shouldn't really expect either/or/both — especially not from indie games. That's extra money.
After diving into Saga, pole-dancing robots has nothing on robots sexing and making babies
That's a totally separate issue from the game. The servers are variable, and can go down at ANY time. So what, you'd adjust your review of the game whenever the server goes down? Then you'd wait and see how long it's down to properly score it? And depending on who actually maintains the servers, it might not even be…
I mean, I get why they're waiting. But all things being equal, server issues doesn't make it a bad game, whether it relies on them or not. So from an objective point of view it doesn't make that much a difference; and any negative views on server issues is purely subjective, since it doesn't affect the whole.
One might wonder: how the hell do you turn a game as cinematic as The Last of Us into a movie? One will keep wondering. Sony's doing it, working alongside Naughty Dog and Screen Gems to make their PS3 hit into a film.
Glad to see so many software engineers in here. You guys really know your stuff about software development cycles. This is great, I'm learning a lot.
I'm glad all you commentors know WTF you're talking about when it comes to global business decisions. This is great, I'm learning so much.
Stop projecting your feelings onto these developers and their situation, people. Until someone actually from Irrational Games says "yeah this sucks he threw us away and I can't get a job", there's no need for all this faux-rage that you'll forget about in a few months.
I think what disappoints me the most is people who insist that the bleeding edge of tech operates on the edge of "low end of the average"; meaning consumer technology doesn't move at the pace of the slowest connection. Not only that, we're acting like Steam doesn't exist and doesn't already do this.
They get more angsty with each evolution.
That's what I wanna see it become, a dope action RPG. I'd be down for that.
I'll never say SE chasing graphicsgraphicsgraphics is a bad thing. I live for their cutscenes. I also wouldn't want them to stick to the same formula that everyone playing Bravely seems to love.
I'm not really looking to buy a handheld for this, so if it ends up coming to console at any time I'll grab it.
Discless Xbox One sounds awesome. So now the question is do I wait for these rumors to come to fruition or ignore them all together?
Your "joke/sarcasm/whatever" fell horribly flat.
okay dude.
